PRESERVING THE ONTARIO SCIENCE CENTRE
A Personal Journey to Preserve a Scientific Landmark
Welcome to my personal page dedicated to saving the Ontario Science Centre (OSC). The OSC has been a beacon of science education and inspiration for generations. Through this page, I share my personal experiences and the impact the OSC has had on my life, and my hopes on preserving this invaluable institution.
My Journey with the Ontario Science Centre
Growing up, the Ontario Science Centre was more than just a museum; it was a place where my curiosity was sparked and nurtured. I remember my first visit, mesmerized by the interactive exhibits and hands-on experiments.
As a child, I vaguely recall the option to visit for free after 7pm. This is when OSC closed at 9pm during the week, if I got it right. I’m guessing that was done for those who couldn’t afford full price access. Many of us who grew up in Flemingdon Park would take advantage of this time. I was particularly obsessed with the lander exhibit, which was halfway down towards the bottom of the OSC facility. The Apollo capsule, space related exhibits and more; the staff really made you feel like you were in space.
Several years ago I got a chance to visit again. It’s funny how I ended up at the temporary video game exhibit (Game 2.0), revisiting my old favorites.

Playing Pac-Man and Galaga made me feel like a kid again (so I added it to my collection), and it was amusing to see so many “kids” my age reliving their glory days too. It was a lot of fun and even gave me some ideas for my retro collection.
Each subsequent visit deepened my appreciation for science and technology. I remember many presentations, and I am glad my kids were able to have the same opportunity. The OSC has played a pivotal role in shaping my understanding of the world and I hope it will be around, at its present location, for many more years to come.

Save The Ontario Science Centre
The Ontario Science Centre was a right of passage for many of us. Of course more could be done in the area, but with the new Ontario Line and Eglinton Crosstown the Ontario Science Centre may actually be in the perfect spot; allowing many to visit other unknown parts of the city.
I’ve personally written a letter to my MPP and Premier Ford. We should preserve this institution or at least upgrade it into a new one; focused on education, STEM, the environment and more.
Maybe its time for all of us to get involved? I’ve added a link to a organization trying to save the Ontario Science Centre. You can also reach out to your local MPP.
